eTrust Antivirus

eTrust Antivirus Software is published by Computer Associates, a large software conglomerate.  I had a version of this software installed on my computer and it was unable to identify some of the malicious programs that came in on the internet.  PC Shield Deluxe, which uses the Kaspersky Antivirus engine, was able to quickly identify and remove these problematic programs.

eTrust Antivirus supposedly provides extensive protection against different kinds of online threats viruses, identity thieves, spyware, malware, and hackers that can jeopardize your privacy in surfing the Internet, data storage, and the performance of your computer system. Computer Associates claims that their software is a combination of easy to use, business-strength technology with automatic updates and pre-configured settings that will work out for the security of your computer system.

eTrust has the following main features:

  • It eliminates the presence of any type of viruses, worms, and Trojan horse programs.
  • It targets the spyware before it can bring adverse effects to your computer system.
  • It blocks unwanted spam.
  • It stops intruders from penetrating your computer system, thus eliminating the risk of your personal information and other useful data be accessed by unauthorized individuals.

eTrust is easy to use, however, independent testing labs such as AV-Test.org do not rank it very highly on virus detection, and I found The Shield Deluxe was better at identifying and removing malicious software.
